Robin Symons President of RB Camera Club
January 2012

May I wish you all a healthy and if possible in the present economic climate, a prosperous New Year, may all your photographic ambitions come to fruition.

What a change in the weather from last when we had the deepest snow and the lowest temperatures in Lincolnshire for decades. This winter we have had the warmest and driest autumn on record, but who knows what is in store for us?
Some things do not change; winter continues to creep in as the sun’s arc drops lower in the sky with every passing day. The days are shorter and the nights longer, but the clear air signals the new sojourn and the thin leafless trees reveal sights and vistas held secret during the warmer months. It is difficult to please everyone as those sights revealed are not always what photographers want to see, so we look for fog or mist to hide those unwanted pylons, buildings or whatever that offends our artistic eye.

There now comes an appeal on behalf of RB Camera Club, (don’t worry I am not asking for money) no this is an appeal for ALL members to look again at their images and submit them to the selection committee.
You don’t have to submit prints, so there is very little cost involved, they do not need to have been awarded a place in competitions and they don’t have to be unworthy (as far as you are concerned); let the committee judges decide.
Barbara and Rowland Hill are having difficulty in finding enough work to enter County, inter-county and national competitions. It will bring great credit to RB and on yourself if you are ‘lucky’ (no, that’s not the word), it’s ‘talented’, talented enough to be selected. To those who do not enter competitions, or never seem to please the club judges d o not underestimate your own ability, you may be pleasantly surprised.
There is a different criterion for judging inter-national competitions and it is not always the winning ‘club’ images that gain favour at national level.
Please dig deep into your image files, keeping taking new images and use your imagination to be creative and let us put RB on the map again and show the rest of the world what we can do. Here endeth the first lesson!
Just send your images by email direct to Barbara’s email address: thehills4@virginmedia.com but do not forget to include your name and any details you wish to add, (the title is not important at this stage)

With best wishes to you all,

Robin Symons A.R.P.S.
