Sunrise, Sutton on Sea

12. Sunrise, Sutton-on-Sea, September 2006. This image means more to me than just about any other photograph I have made. This was the day that my mother was going to hospital to receive her test results having lost a lot o weight during the previous few months, I knew she would be given the diagnosis of cancer. I could not sleep and travelled to this beach about 15 miles from home to take some images. I found this piece of small wood (the last remnants of a sea defence groin), this small piece of wood that has withstood the ravages of the sea and the passing of time reminded me of the frailty of my mum and that she would not be able to withstand the passing of much more time.
